A large marijuana smuggling attempt at a checkpoint was foiled near Freer, Texas.

The drug smuggling attempt occurred during the late evening of November 15, 2020 when a tractor-trailer approached the checkpoint. During an immigration inspection of the driver, a service canine alerted to the vehicle.

The driver, a Mexican national, was referred to secondary inspection where agents discovered several taped bundles of marijuana inside the trailer.

The bundles had a total weight of 737 pounds with an approximate street value of $589,604. Investigation into the case was turned over to Special Agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration who took custody of the narcotics and seized the tractor and trailer.
