U.S. Border Patrol agents prevented a large human smuggling attempt near Laredo, Texas.

The incident occurred during the early morning hours of April 13, 2020 when agents performed a traffic stop on a white tractor hauling a white trailer. A Service canine was requested and alerted to the trailer.

Agents opened the trailer, and discovered 28 individuals, all illegally present in the United States, from the countries of Mexico, Guatemala, and Ecuador. The individuals and the driver, a U.S. citizen, were taken into custody pending investigation.

Despite the ongoing international COVID-19 pandemic, immigrant smugglers endanger the lives of individuals they transport, and put at risk the health and safety of our Nation. U.S. Border Patrol agents strive to prevent the flow of illegal immigration and slow the spread of COVID-19.
