U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Tucson Station arrested a previously convicted sex offender after he illegally entered the United States Wednesday morning near Arivaca, Arizona.

During processing, agents learned Salvin Chivalan, a 26-year-old Mexican Guatemalan national, had felony convictions in Charlotte, North Carolina for taking indecent liberties with a child in 2017, where he was sentenced to 12 to 25 months confinement and 24 months of supervised probation.

Chivalan will remain in federal custody to face charges for re-entering the U.S. as an aggravated felon.

All persons apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks using biometrics to ensure illegal immigrants with criminal histories are positively identified.
