There was a shooting at the Oakbrook Center mall in Chicago on December 23, 2021. The mall is closed as this is an active investigation. The mall erupted in gunfire after a single shooter began firing shots inside the mall around 6 p.m. Central time.

The mall was very crowded due to Christmas holiday shoppers buying last minute items. Customers and mall employees began running in hysteria from the gunfire. 

4 people were shot during the shooting. Several other people were injured while running for cover and exits.  

The shooter was eventually apprehended. The mall quickly went on lockdown.

Mall management issued a statement saying: 

“Tonight’s isolated incident is extremely upsetting for our shopping community. We are grateful for our partners at the Oak Brook Police Department for their diligence in leading this developing investigation.”
