7 people are now dead from the mass shooting that occurred on April 7, 2021 in York County, South Carolina. On April 10, 2021 Robert Shook, 38, died from the gunshot injuries he sustained during the shooting. Robert was a HVAC employee working at the home where the shooting occurred.
Among the original 6 that were killed was Dr. Robert Lesslie, 70, and his wife of 35 years Barbara Lesslie, 69, along with their 2 grandchildren Adah Lesslie, 9, and Noah Lesslie, 5. James Lewis was working at the home and was also killed. The armed assailant was ex-NFL player Phillip Adams; the suspect killed himself after shooting and killing all of the other victims.
Phillip entered the doctor's home and shot dead all 6 people. He then ran to a nearby home, where he shot and killed himself. Authorities searched for hours to find him, and he was eventually found several hours after the shootings.
Phillip played as a defensive back for multiple NFL teams from 2010-2015. In college he played at South Carolina State.
Dr. Lesslie worked at Riverview Medical Center. Dr. Lesslie has been practicing medicine in South Carolina since 1981, according to his website. He received his degree at the Medical University of South Carolina and has worked in the surrounding Rock Hill area and in Charlotte.
Phillip's brain will now be scanned and analyzed to determine if he had any mental complications or traumatic brain injuries that may of come from the hard hits he took and gave in the NFL. Phillip did suffer several concussions in the NFL, so his mental state may of played a factor.
