Kerry Lyn Caviasca was arrested on January 15, 2022 after she allegedly left her kids home alone for days in cold Watertown, CT while she went on vacation in sunny Florida with her boyfriend. Kerry is a teacher in the Watertown Public School District.
Kerry went on vacation to Florida for 2 days with her boyfriend, while allegedly leaving her two children home alone in Watertown from November 20-22 of year 2021.
Authorities say Kerry's children were under the age of 12.
The arrest warrant claims Kerry told the two children to stay in the basement. When the kids asked Kerry what they were going to eat for dinner, she allegedly told them, "just eat candy for food, I'm sorry."
Kerry also allegedly told the kids to stay in the basement. On one occasion the kids sent Kerry a text message asking permission to go to the bathroom in the home, Kerry's reply was to "go quickly with no lights."

Kerry did use Uber Eats to get the children food during her vacation. The children missed school on November 22nd with unexcused absences.
Police were called to the home after Kerry’s ex husband reported on December 17, 2021 that he believed she had left the two children home alone in November.
Kerry's ex husband told police he became suspicious because he could not reach the children by phone on the vacation weekend in question. Kerry's ex husband told police he sent his father to the home to talk to the children, but he got no answer at the door.
According to the arrest warrant, after the vacation weekend, Kerry's ex husband was able to read text messages between Kerry and her children which seemed to indicate she was leaving on a plane and that they should stay downstairs and out of sight.
Kerry was arrested in January 2022 charged with two counts of risk of injury to a minor and two counts of non-reckless endangerment. The children's father has custody of the kids now.
Waterbury Public Schools released a statement saying:
Waterbury Public Schools has been informed of a pending allegation regarding a Waterbury Public School staff member. The alleged actions do not represent the values of our district. The teacher has been placed on leave while the district conducts an investigation.
