The Boston Market restaurant located at 9550 East Independence Blvd. Matthews, NC scored an 82 B on a health and safety inspection on December 9, 2021. The person in charge was not performing duties to ensure the proper procedures of cold holding, hot holding, date marking, cleaning, and sanitizing.


The manager was not aware of reportable illnesses or when to allow employees to return to work.  

A Boston Market employee was seen putting on gloves to prepare a customer order without washing their hands. The inspector ordered the employee to discard the  gloves and wash their hands and don clean gloves. 

The inspector observed another Boston Market employee report to work to begin the shift without washing their hands. State law requires food employees to wash hands before engaging in food preparation including working with exposed food, clean equipment, utensils, and unwrapped single service and single use articles.

One of the hand sinks did not have any soap, also there were no paper towels at the front hand sink.

There were packages of out of date meatloaf with a manufacturer use by date of 9/21/21. The inspector had all of the out of date items discarded.

The cutting boards and prep surfaces at the serving line had food debris and residue on them. 

Most items in the walk-in cooler were without date labels including sheet trays of rotisserie chickens, cooked meatloaf, and ham.  

Boston Market had multiple pieces of equipment that were not functioning, including 2 rotisserie ovens, a microwave, and an under-counter refrigeration unit.

There were broken and missing floor tiles with missing grout throughout the restaurant.
