CITY COMMISSIONER CHARGED WITH 12 COUNTS OF SEXUAL EXPLOITATION OF A MINOR
Peter Devlin VanVliet is a city commissioner in Havelock, NC. Peter was arrested on New Year's Eve 2019 at his home. The alleged offenses occurred between February 4th and December 30th of 2019 the this year, says the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
On December 27, 2019, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation’s Computer Crimes Unit was requested by the Havelock Police Department to investigate Peter.
After a joint investigation, Peter was arrested at his home without incident shortly after midnight on Tuesday, December 31, 2019, by special agents and charged with 12 counts of second degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
The SBI says they found computer video files.
The investigation found pornographic images of females, estimated ages 2-8, performing sexual acts along with adult men, the SBI says. One image contained an adult woman performing a sexual act on a boy that was estimated to be underage, the SBI says.
He was issued a $100,000 bond by a Craven County magistrate and was released upon posting bail.
Peter also serves as a youth sports coach.
