NASCAR elite Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his family were hurt when the plane they were on crashed Thursday afternoon August 15 at an airport in Tennessee. Officials said Earnhardt had cuts and bruises, but was alert and conscious when he was taken to the hospital.
The private plane rolled off the end of the runway after landing at the Elizabethton Municipal Airport. The plane then caught fire.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the plane was owned by JR Motorsports in Mooresville.
The Carter County Sheriff’s Office said Earnhardt, his wife Amy and their child Isla were on board, along with the pilot, one other person and the family dog.
