
INMATE DIES AT JAIL IN CHARLOTTE
An inmate at the Mecklenburg County Jail in Charlotte, NC died in a cell on January 18, 2023. Bryon Miller, 49, was found dead in the jail around 5:30 a.m. Bryon was housed at the Central jail location on 801 East Fourth Street.
At 5:07 a.m. an medical emergency was called by a detention officer in the jail housing unit where Bryon was assigned after he was discovered unresponsive in his jail cell.
Detention personnel started resuscitation efforts and continued until emergency medical personnel arrived.
At 5:24 a.m. the Charlotte Fire Department and Mecklenburg County EMS arrived and continued efforts to resuscitate the inmate, but they were unsuccessful and Bryon was pronounced deceased at approximately 5:38 a.m.
Bryon was arrested and processed into jail custody on Sunday, January 15, 2023. The State Bureau of Investigation will conduct a thorough in custody death investigation as the medical examiner determines the cause of death.
Conditions at the Mecklenburg County Jail have plummeted under the leadership of Gary McFadden. There have been several jail deaths.
