Medic and other responders were dispatched to the scene in reference to the single vehicle crash, involving the dirt bike. The dirt bike was on the right shoulder of the road and Michael was in the roadway with life-threatening injuries.
When medics arrived they transported Michael to Atrium Health Carolina’s Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit and Crime Scene Search responded to conduct the investigation. Officials say the roadway evidence shows the dirt bike driven by Michael ran off the road to the right, made contact with the curb and struck a concrete pillar.
There is allegedly no evidence that any contact was made between the CMPD dual sport bike and any other bikes or ATV’s.
Michael was allegedly not wearing a DOT approved helmet. Speed does not appear to be a factor in this case. It is not known if alcohol or impairment is a factor in this crash.
