James was later caught and arrested. It was determined that the 2014 Acura that James was allegedly operating was reported stolen in Charlotte on February 4, 2020 officials say. The investigation further determined that James was allegedly driving while impaired; also his license was in a revoked status, and he had an open container of an alcoholic beverage in the vehicle officials say.
Excessive speed, recklessness and alcohol are contributing factors in this crash for the suspect. Speed is not a factor for Nigel and alcohol test results are pending.

Arrest warrants for James have been issued for 2nd Degree Murder, Felony Death by Motor Vehicle, Felony Hit and Run, Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Reckless Driving, Driving While License Revoked, Possession of Marijuana, DWI, and for Open Container (Liquor).
