MAN SHOOTS 12-YEAR-OLD BOY ON WEST SUGAR CREEK ROAD
Police have charged Ray Daniels, 29, with shooting a 12-year-old boy on Thursday while he was waiting on the school bus.
Charges detail that Ray fired multiple shots at a group of people standing in front of a motel on West Sugar Creek Rd near Reagan Drive around 7:30 am.
The boy got caught in the cross fire and was hit by one of the bullets in the leg while waiting for the school bus. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He is expected to be okay.
Ray then fled the scene in a vehicle he was a passenger in. There was a second unidentified suspect who was the driver, they were immediately followed by a Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Deputy who was driving by at the time of the shooting and witnessed the incident.
Deputy Corey Thompson chased the suspects and that is when Ray allegedly fired shots at the deputy. A bullet struck the windshield of the deputy's patrol car.
The deputy continued to pursue the vehicle on south I-85 but the suspects were able to get away.
Police set up a perimeter and then received information from a snitch that helped them locate Ray. After a foot pursuit, Ray was apprehended at N. Hoskins and Woodman Ave.
The second suspect has not yet been apprehended. Officers say they recovered a gun believed to be used in the shooting.
