It took over a year for an arrest to be made; Talvi was arrested, charged with Shawn's murder, and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
The Coronavirus postponed the trial for years. Talvi was offered a plea deal with a five-year sentence, but he turned it down.
After more than two weeks of trial, the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict. As a result, Superior Court Judge Karen Eady-Williams declared a mistrial on May 24, 2022.
Talvi is free and murder charges are not pending for him anymore. The charges can be brought back in a new trial if prosecutors decide to do so; but that is unlikely.
