A cop is dead after being savagely shot by an armed suspect just 2 days before his birthday

Officer Tyler Herndon, 25, with the Mount Holly Police Department was shot and killed in the line of duty on December 11, 2020 in Mt Holly, NC. Tyler was killed two days before his December 13th birthday. The suspect in the case has been identified as Joshua Funk, 24, he has been charged with murder.

On December 11, 2020, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Mount Holly police officers were dispatched to a report of a commercial breaking and entering call in progress at 313 Beatty Drive Mt. Holly, NC.

When officers arrived, they encountered an armed suspect identified as Mr. Funk. During the encounter, several shots were fired between Funk and several Mount Holly police officers in addition to a Gaston County police officer, who responded to the incident.

Tyler was shot during the incident, he was transported to Caromont Main Hospital with serious injuries where he died. Funk sustained a gunshot wound during the incident, resulting in a minor injury.
