Jaquavian Caldwell, 19, was arrested on November 11, 2021 charged with a stolen firearm, and getting in a police chase with a stolen vehicle. While eluding police, the suspect allegedly barricaded himself in a shed, all in Charlotte, NC.
Shortly before 9:40 p.m. on November 10, 2021, an off-duty officer was at the Shell gas station on Brookshire Boulevard when he spotted a man wearing a bullet proof vest whose actions with a firearm troubled onlookers and raised a concern for public safety, police say.
The officer notified on duty units in the area of the incident. Moments later, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the driver fled from officers and ultimately crashed the vehicle near the intersection of Glenwood Drive and South Hoskins Road.

All four occupants inside the vehicle fled on foot, and officers were able to quickly apprehend three of them. Additional officers launched a concerted effort to apprehend the driver, Jaquavian, who allegedly fled from the vehicle armed with a rifle.
While the driver was fleeing on foot, he allegedly pointed the rifle at a nearby community member, and then ran into a shed on Tillman Road.
Patrol officers began setting up a perimeter to contain the suspect and protect those in the area. They then worked alongside SWAT officers, the Canine Unit, and the Aviation Unit to de-escalate the armed encounter into the peaceful surrender of Jaquavian. As the investigation continued, it was discovered that both the vehicle Jaquavian was driving and the rifle he was carrying were stolen.
Jaquavian is charged with going armed to the terror of the public, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a stolen vehicle, and assault by pointing a gun.
