A gun was fired on the campus of West Charlotte High School on December 13, 2021. The school is located at 2219 Senior Drive Charlotte, NC. Now West Charlotte is required to be on remote learning for students.

Shortly after 2:15 p.m., officers from several patrol divisions responded to a discharging firearm call.

Two students were involved in a dispute over a book bag. Following the argument, a student brandished a firearm and fired shots. The discharged firearm occurred on campus. Medic responded and treated one person for a minor injury.

Officers quickly arrived at the incident location and determined that no one had been struck by gunfire. The school was placed on lock down per the shooting.

Following this incident, officers remained on the scene during student dismissal to ensure all students were released without further incident.

Many guns have been found on students at schools within Charlotte this year.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Superintendent Earnest Winston says:

“I want to reiterate something I have said multiple times before. What happened today is not a reflection of the hard work that takes place on West Charlotte’s campus. Today’s incident is yet another example of issues that originate in our community that make their way on to our school campuses, and it is unacceptable.”

West Charlotte High School will move to remote learning on December 14, 2021 out of concern for students and staff members emotional health.
