A man has been charged with murder after a missing woman's skeletal remains were found near a church

On April 6, 2021 Dejanarell Cherry, 36, was charged with the murder of Lavonda Floyd, 20. The case stems from when Lavonda's skeletal remains were found on March 28, 2021 in a wooded area on Friendship Village Place near a church.

Lavonda was reported missing on July 5, 2020, and Missing Person Unit detectives began investigating the circumstances surrounding her disappearance. A joint effort between the Homicide Unit and the Missing Person Unit led to the identification of the suspect Dejanarell Cherry.

Warrants for murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon were then issued for his arrest. Dejanarell is currently in jail for an unrelated murder charge where he will be served the two outstanding warrants and remain in jail custody.

Dejanarell was previously charged in the murder of Davyon Farrer, 21. The victim was shot and killed on March 24, 2021.

Another human skeleton was found in a wooded area on I-77 near Morehead Street in Charlotte.
