22-year-old Dontray Pharr cut off his electronic monitor and was arrested two days later after he fled from police in a stolen vehicle.
On July 5, 2020, Dontray was near Winterhaven Drive Charlotte, NC when he cut off the electronic monitoring device he had been court-ordered to wear for his pending charge of first-degree burglary.
Shortly before 1:50 p.m. on July 7, 2020, a concerned community member called 911 to ask officers to check the welfare of a male and female who were in a physical altercation on Couloak Drive. When officers arrived, they received information indicating the female party may have been a victim of a violent crime, so a search for both parties was launched.
The preliminary investigation identified a Honda Civic, which had been stolen on July 4, 2020 was potentially being driven by a suspect by the name of Dontray Pharr.

Officers gathered additional information which led to one officer spotting the stolen Civic near the intersection of Orr Road and Old Concord Road. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop, and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The pursuit ended when the suspect vehicle caused a collision near the intersection of North Tryon Street and North Church Street.
Dontray fled from the vehicle on foot but was apprehended a short time later. No other vehicles were involved in the collision and there were no injuries.
Dontray is a convicted felon. He is charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and numerous charges stemming from his reckless driving during the high speed chase.
