TEENAGE GIRL KILLED IN CAR ACCIDENT, SUV RAN OFF ROAD AND STRUCK TREE
On June 27, 2020 a fatal motor vehicle collision killed 14-year-old Anahy Amancecatl which occurred near the intersection of Idlewild Road and Drifter Drive Charlotte, NC. Michelle Lorenzo, 21, was driving during the time of the crash and was arrested on charges of involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving.
A Chevrolet Equinox had struck a tree and went 200 feet from the roadway down an embankment. All four occupants of the vehicle were transported to the hospital. Once at the hospital, one of these patients, Anahy was pronounced deceased.
The Equinox, which Michelle was driving, was traveling on Idlewild Road at a high rate of speed when it crossed the center line and into oncoming traffic. Michelle over-corrected to the right and struck a median which caused the vehicle to go airborne.
Once the Equinox landed, Michelle turned the steering wheel left which caused the vehicle to exit the roadway and travel down an embankment. The vehicle struck a culvert and continued into a wooded area, and the passenger’s side of the vehicle struck a tree.
Anahy was sitting in the right, rear seat and was not wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred, officials say. Excessive speed is a factor for this crash, and impairment is not suspected.
The driver of the Equinox was released from the hospital and arrested.
