On December 22, 2021 Pennsylvania Congress-Woman Mary Gay Scanlon, 62, was carjacked at FDR Park in Philadelphia. The suspects had guns.

Mary had just finished a business meeting and was walking to her parked vehicle at the park around 2 p.m. when she was approached by two men driving a dark colored SUV. The men pointed guns at Mary and demanded her car keys cell phone and other items.

Mary was frightened and handed over her possessions to the crooks. The suspects took Mary's personal cellphone, federal cellphone, and her identification.

The men drove away with Mary’s 2017 Acura.

A spokesperson for the Congress-woman's office said in a statement:

“The congresswoman was physically unharmed. She thanks the Philadelphia Police Department for their swift response, and appreciates the efforts of both the sergeant-at-arms in D.C. and her local police department for coordinating with Philly PD to ensure her continued safety.”

Mary is a Democrat and represents the 5th District in Philadelphia. Mary was first elected to Congress in 2018.
