Danneil Hughes, 26, pled guilty on March 11, 2022 to three counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. The robberies were in Charlotte, NC and surrounding areas. 26-year-old Rontavious Clark died in a wreck during the robberies.

In October 2018, Danneil and Rontavious were accused of robbing three convenience stores. Prosecutors say they held clerks at gunpoint and stole money at three stores: two convenience stores on Monroe Road in Charlotte, as well as a convenience store on West John Street in Matthews, NC. Prosecutors say the men also robbed a man at gunpoint and took his Lexus SUV vehicle.

At 5:00 a.m. on October 25, 2018 armed robbery detectives were notified that the stolen Lexus SUV was involved in a motor vehicle collision in Lancaster, South Carolina. The occupants of the vehicle matched the description of the armed robbery suspects.

Rontavious was the driver of the SUV and was pronounced deceased on scene. The passenger, who was identified as Danneil was transported to a medical facility for treatment of the injuries he sustained in the crash. Danneil was arrested following his medical treatment.

Nearly 4 years later, Danneil plead guilty to a host of robbery charges. A judge sentenced Danneil to a total of 96-140 months in prison. He was also sentenced to an additional 19-32 months in prison; that sentence was suspended pending his successful completion of 36 months of supervised probation, which is to be served after the completion of his prison sentence.
