Jemario Baldwin, 34, was shot on December 6, 2020, at 3:30 a.m. at a gas station on Steele Creek Road Charlotte, NC. Jemario is accused of attempting to rob the gas station.

Officers arrived at the gas station and encountered Jemario, the suspect fired shots at officers and Officer Samantha Thompson returned fire, officials say. No officers were injured in the shooting. Jemario subsequently fled the scene in a vehicle and led officers on a vehicle pursuit which concluded on South Tryon Street after the suspect’s vehicle collided with a utility pole.

Jemario sustained a gunshot wound during the situation. Medic transported Jemario to the hospital where he is being treated for a gunshot wound and injuries he sustained in the vehicle collision.

Jemario will be arrested and served warrants once he has been released from the hospital. Jemario’s current warrants are attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer, 1st degree kidnapping, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault by pointing a gun, possession of a firearm by convicted felon, felony fleeing to elude in a motor vehicle.

Officer Thompson was hired on October 15, 2012, and is assigned to the South Division. She has been placed on paid administrative leave. The State Bureau of Investigation is conducting the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
