The Cherokee apparel is the first for an American Indian tribe, states a Cherokee Nation news release.
“The Cherokee clothing lines are both a first in retail merchandising and marketing items for youth with culturally significant Cherokee images and symbols,” said Molly Jarvis, vice president of cultural tourism at Cherokee Nation Entertainment. “The new clothing lines will act as a bridge to help preserve and promote the history and culture of the Cherokee people with a younger audience.”
The Cherokee Kids clothing line features youth T-shirts, and the 3 Sisters babywear clothing line includes baby bibs and infant “onesies.”
The Cherokee Kids wear logo includes a symbolic water drum, and the 3 Sisters name refers to the main agricultural crops of the Cherokees: beans, squash and corn. The apparel is designed by local American Indian artists and produced by an American Indian-owned screen-printing company in Tulsa.
Cherokee Kids and 3 Sisters Babywear apparel are now available at CherokeeGiftShop.com and selected Cherokee Nation gift shops.
