He served the tribe for more than 25 years, reports The Cherokee One Feather. He served as vice chief from 1995-1999 and also earlier from 1987-1991. He was also the Birdtown Representative of the Tribal Council for eight years.
Ledford, who was born in 1931, was a member of the United States Armed Forces.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 2 at 4 p.m. at the Chief Joyce Dugan Cultural Arts Center at the Cherokee Central School on Big Cove Road in Cherokee, North Carolina.
