It’s Wednesday, and A Tribe Called Red Will Burn Your Village to the Ground (for Free!).

On Thanksgiving, A Tribe Called Red gave their fans a gift: a new, free, downloadable track called “Burn Your Village to the Ground.” In sharing the link on Facebook, the trio who’ve invented their own pow-wow electronic dance music, included a note outlining some of their thoughts on Thanksgiving. It reads in part:

Thanksgiving is a complicated holiday for Native people. In a way, each day is a day of thanksgiving to the Creator for the original people of Turtle Island. This doesn’t mean that we don’t enjoy turkey, pie and family as much as the next person, but at the same time the Thanksgiving myth largely shared in mainstream culture perpetuates a one sided view of a complicated history surrounding this holiday.

The track the group released is laden with meaning about the holiday. Its title comes from a speech delivered by Wednesday Addams (Christina Ricci) in the 1993 film Addams Family Values.

True, it is no longer Thanksgiving, but it is Wednesday—the Wednesday after Thanksgiving—and that’s close enough for government work. Here’s the track; click he button in the upper-right-hand corner with the downward-pointing arrow to download it as an mp3.

Here’s the full Thanksgiving scene from Addams Family Values, by the way:
