Though the video was originally released in September, Johnny Depp has made his way into the latest television marketing Christmas release of Dior’s Fragrance “Sauvage.” Depp serves as the main character in a short video that takes place, according to Dior, in “the mystical land of the Joshua Tree.”

The video, directed by Jean Baptiste Mondino, has been receiving mixed reviews on social media since September.

In the video, Depp, performs a myriad of activities, from playing a guitar to driving across oil fields, where he comes across a bison, a hawk and a coyote and burying a long necklace in the sand. Though Sauvage literally translates to ‘wild’ in French, there is not necessarily an overt connection to the word savage and/or the term Native American in the video.

Depp, according to Dior, encounters surrealistic fauna and here the Sauvage man understands that every image contains a message.

In the ad, Depp says scripted lines, including, “I’ve gotta get outta here, which way, I don’t know. What am I looking for? Something I can’t see and I can feel it. It is magic… Sauvage, I can feel it.” All the while tearing through the desert in an old Dodge Challenger.
