The national health campaign, in its 19th year, features running and walking events created in response to an increase in childhood diabetes among American Indians and Alaska Natives.
The first event kicks off Sunday, May 1. A total of 130 local events will run until August 11.
Since initiating Just Move It, the Navajo Nation has gradually incorporated more of their culture and tradition into the program. “The Navajo phrase T’áá hwó ají t’éego means ‘It’s up to you’. JMI encourages and motivates individuals to do something about their health and make changes in their lives to prevent diabetes and heart disease,” according to the Navajo Just Move It website.
