“The store will replace the former Lalo Treasures in the [Mohegan Sun’s] Casino of the Sky and will be filled from floor to ceiling with a wide array of candy for every sweet tooth,” said Mohegan Sun, in a press statement prior to the opening.
This is the fourth Dylan’s Candy Bar store owned and operated by Dylan Lauren, daughter of fashion icon Ralph Lauren and author Ricky Lauren. Like her father, Dylan, is positioning her store as a lifestyle brand, which extends beyond candies and chocolates to candy-inspired fashion and beauty products.
Founder Dylan, known by many as “Candy Queen,” opened her first store in 2001 after having been inspired by “Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory.” Today, her stores are located in New York City and East Hampton, New York; and Houston, Texas; with a new outlet planned to open in Los Angeles this month, and another anticipated in Miami Beach, Florida by late winter.
“Now, visitors of the Mohegan Sun can enjoy this same experience with over 5,000 types of candies to choose from, including 300 types of bulk candy, novelty and nostalgic candy and candy inspired clothing and jewelry,” said the statement.
“Mohegan Sun tries to cater to all of its unique visitors with a multitude of different shops,” said Kimberly Miller, Mohegan Sun spokesperson.
“Dylan’s Candy Bar is the best fit for the space that was formerly Lalo Treasures because a candy store is different from any other offering currently in The Shops at Mohegan Sun,” she added.
Mohegan Sun did not disclose the reason Lalo Treasures, an international gift, home decor and accessories shop, vacated the property. Construction for the 1,000-square feet Dylan’s Candy Bar started in the early part of July.
Dylan’s Candy Store will join some 30 stores at the 130,000-square feet property, which include Sephora, Coach, the Farmer’s Almanac General Store, Tiffany & Co., Swarovski, Tommy Bahama, among others.
“When the store opens in late summer, Mohegan Sun anticipates a ribbon cutting ceremony with Tribal Council members and executives from the Dylan’s Candy Bar team,” said Miller.
In other news, Mohegan Sun, on August 1, announced the appointment of Brian J. Bork as its new chief marketing officer. Bork will lead and oversee all marketing, advertising and entertainment activities for the property.
Bork most recently served as chief marketing officer for Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Prior to that, he served as vice president of marketing strategy for MGM Resorts, Inc.
