Thanks Thor! Chris Hemsworth Apologizes For Native Garb – Stands with NoDAPL

Chris Hemsworth Facebook / Thor Ragnarok star Chris Hemsworth has just apologized for wearing a Native costume at a New Year’s Eve Party and also stated he was “Standing with Standing Rock.”

“Thor Ragnarok,” starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor with direction by Indigenous director Taika Waititi, has just wrapped.

Hemsworth has just apologized for wearing a Native costume at a New Year’s Eve Party and also stated he was “Standing with Standing Rock.”

In a Facebook post, Hemsworth stated: ‘I was stupidly unaware of the offence (sic) this may have caused and the sensitivity around this issue. I sincerely and unreservedly apologise (sic) to all First Nations people for this thoughtless action.’

The star of Thor Ragnarok continued, “I now appreciate that there is a great need for a deeper understanding of the complex and extensive issues facing indigenous communities… I hope that in highlighting my own ignorance I can help in some small way.’

Hemsworth’s apology was accompanied by a photo of him standing alongside Thor: Ragnorak’s Indigenous director, Taika Waititi. They were both holding up a sign that read: ‘We stand with Standing Rock.’

In a previous interview with Waititi in ICTMN, when asked about Hemsworth’s cowboy and Indians party he replied:

“Chris is very caring and he was very supportive and mindful to the indigenous community here in Australia. We all have some learning to do, none of us are exempt. We are all learning as we go, and we are all trying to be good people.”

The original offending post on Instagram was three days after Hemsworth and his wife Elsa Pataky hosted a New Year’s party and Pataky posted a photo to Instagram of them and other partygoers dressed as “Indians.”

Social media had blasted the couple for ‘cultural appropriation.’

But now, Thor has made good.
