Twitter Adds Redskins Logo Head to HTTR Hashtag

As the Washington Redskins celebrated the opening of a new NFL season in their stadium with the likes of Matthew McConaughey, who The Washington Post calls a ‘well-documented Redskins fan,’ some in Indian Country voiced their disappointment at Twitter’s addition of the Redskins Indian Head logo that automatically populates when typing the hashtag #HTTR, which stands for “Hail to the Redskins.”

For nearly an entire day the #HTTR hashtag trended on Twitter.

Though many fans lauded the #HTTR hashtag and excitement was high with the appearance of McConaughey, the Redskins lost to the Steelers 38-16. And some on Twitter saw some justice in that:

Vanessa Lamers ?@vlamers: The #changethenames are losing. It’s called karma. #changethename #HTTR

tee antone ?@t6tina1: Come ON STEELERS beat that racial slur named team #HTTR #ChangeTheName
