Native American Achievement Center
Montana State University - Billings
On May 7, 2019, the Montana State University - Billings Native American Achievement Center, Rocky Mountain Tribal Leaders Council, and Native American Development Corporation are hosting a gathering and group photoshoot at Swords Park as a symbolic transition of the organizations’ cause from Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women to Missing and Murdered Indigenous People. This change has been decided upon in order to be more inclusive of all indigenous peoples affected by the gaps in policy, law enforcement, and other sectors that allow so many Indigenous loved ones to go missing and murdered every year.
The event will take place at 7:00 pm at Swords Park - Rimtop Drive, Billings. Parking is extremely limited, so we encourage all participants to park at the Montana State University - Billings campus parking lot for free carpools/shuttles to and from the location.
As this crisis effects for all Indigenous people, we welcome women and men of all ages to line the infamous Billings’ “Rims” to make a stand.
The event is also an opportunity for photographers of any skill level to showcase their work through a social media contest. Photographers can post their photos of the “Line the Rims in Red” gathering to the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women March Facebook page by Sunday, May 12th at midnight. The photo with the most likes is invited to let us use the photo for upcoming Missing and Murdered Indigenous People events.
