Indian Country Today's top stories for 2018

Greetings and She:kon everyone, this is Vincent Schilling and I am the associate editor of Indian Country Today and your host for the ICT Weekly Video News Update. With this 2018 Year-end update, Indian Country Today will bring you some of our top stories to hit the site this year.

This video report focuses of some of our top stories article — Indian Country Today's Top Stories for 2018 — which posted to the site on Monday, December 31st.

Here are the top stories for 2018.

Our overall top five articles for 2018 are the following.

The Choctaw Nation Health Clinic employee who posted anti-Native snapchat comments and was then fired came in as the most viewed and shared story. The others that followed included the RCMP finding a murdered Native woman in a ditch and ruling it as ‘not suspicious’. Wes Studi speaking Cherokee at the Oscars, a non-Native man who served no time after strangling and sexualizing a Native woman, and President Trump administration who supported changing Indian health programs.

Other top stories were Deb Haaland’s Native heritage being questioned and Elizabeth Warren’s DNA test in politics, Sherman Alexie’s allegations of sexual harassment and a store named Spunky Squaw, Wes Studi at the Oscars speaking Cherokee in Arts and Entertainment and more.

Our overall top story to be read and shared on the site is the story I wrote and researched over a several-year period, titled The True Story of Pocahontas: Historical Myths Versus Sad Reality. Thanks for the support.

Our most viewed Opinion editorial article was titled: Changing Elizabeth Warren's story to one about Native America - by Crystal Echo Hawk. Great job Crystal.
