She painted a red hand on her face, and she painted big red letters on her legs spelling out MMIW in honor of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. And during her race last week, Jordan Marie Brings Three White Horses Daniel prayed at each of the 26 miles at the Boston Marathon, reciting the name of a different Native woman each time. Two state governors, Gov. Phil Scott in Vermont, and Gov. Janet Mills in Maine are poised to sign two sets of approved state legislation into law, recognizing Indigenous Peoples Day as a replacement for Columbus Day on the second Monday each October. They are joining the movement as many states and major cities like Los Angeles and more are celebrating Indigenous Peoples Day on the second Monday in October.

The National Indian Gaming Commission today announced the resignation of Jonodev Osceola Chaudhuri as the Chairman of National Indian Gaming Commission, effective Wednesday, May 15, 2019. I was fortunate to meet with Chairman Chaudhuri in his Washington DC office where he made the announcement the day before he went public.
