Alan Roy for State Senate
White Earth Nation Secretary/Treasurer Leonard Alan Roy, 35, officially announced his run for State Senate District 2 during a campaign kickoff held in Waubun, Minnesota on January 12, 2020.
Surrounded by family and supporters, Roy, also known as Alan Roy, stated that he was running because, “we live in an uncommon time that requires uncommon leadership. Friends and neighbors asked me to run because I understand the economic and social challenges of the district. We need someone that will work for all Minnesotans.” He will be seeking the Democratic Farmer Labor nomination.
At the campaign event, Roy focused on the economy, healthcare and natural resources. He also touched on Veterans and stated, “it is important that we take care of our Service members when they deploy and our Veterans when they return home.” When speaking to supporters on next steps, he stated that, “right now we need to focus on securing the DFL nomination and meeting voters at their doorstep. We will build a better future for everyone. I see only one way forward—together.”
Roy currently serves as the Secretary/Treasurer of the White Earth Nation — a position he was elected to by Tribal members in 2018. A Veteran of the United States Army, he served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, and he currently drills as a Reservist in the United States Army Reserve. Roy is a White Earth Reservation native and he holds a Master of Public Affairs degree from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs, Minneapolis, Minn. He and his wife, Henny, have been married 11 years and are raising three children in the Detroit Lakes Public School District.
