8-Year-Old Injured in Crash Involving Impaired Driver

An 8-year-old boy and an adult female were injured after their vehicle overturned with an impaired driver at the wheel.

On Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 9:45 p.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department along with Charlotte Fire Department and paramedics responded to a motor vehicle accident with reported overturn. The crash happened on Marvin Road at Johnston Road in the Ballantyne neighborhood of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Police say a dark colored vehicle was traveling on Johnston Road heading towards Marvin Road when the crash occurred. The vehicle turned left onto Marvin Road pulling out in front of a second four-door sedan causing the crash. The dark colored vehicle with an 8-year-old boy and adult female passenger overturned.

Police administered a field sobriety test and breathalyzer to the male driver. After failing the tests, police placed the man under arrest. He charged with Driving While Under The Influence (DUI).

The adult female passenger as well as an 8-year-old child who were in the car with him were transported by paramedics Atrium Health - Carolinas Medical Center the with non-life-threatening injuries.
