A 16-inch water main broke Monday morning causing delays and no water service in the Ballantyne Area of Charlotte.

On Monday, August 19, 2019, around 10:52 a.m, a large water main break was reported in the Ballantyne area of South Charlotte. Charlotte Water received calls of the water main break on Ardrey Kell Road in front of the Blakeney Shopping Center. A Charlotte Water repair crew confirmed the water main pipe was 16 inches in diameter. Due to the break and needed repairs, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department closed Ardrey Kell Road between Blakeney Heath Road and Rea Road.

Multiple Charlotte Water assets were digging into the ground to gain access to the pipe around 1:00 p.m., Monday. Mud, Clay, and debris covered a stretch of the heavily traveled roadway. Charlotte Water officials said water service is being affected in the area. They expect the repairs and road closure to last at least into the early evening hours.
