Man Killed Outside Charlotte Motel After Shooting

Charles Fullington, 44, was killed Wednesday evening in Charlotte's 65th Homicide After Shooting on Nations Ford Road.

On Wednesday, July 24, 2019, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to a reported shooting at 7901 Nations Ford Road. The call for an assault with a deadly weapon came in at 5:32 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers located a male with gunshot wound outside of a room at the City Inn. Paramedics transported Charles Fullington, 44, to Atrium Health Carolina’s Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.

Police began a homicide investigation at the motel. Crime Scene detectives and Crime Scene technicians responded to the scene. CMPD Maj. Ryan Butler said, "The victim was located outside one of the hotel rooms." Police say a variety of customers stay at City Inn motel, some short term and some learn term due to the proximity to Interstate 77. Maj. Butler said, "Everyone involved did have a previous existing relationship. They did know each other."

Police confirmed shortly after the shooting, they were not looking for any additional suspects in reference to this case. The circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation. Once the investigation is complete, the case will be turned over to the District Attorney’s Office for an independent review.
