UPDATE: South Carolina Highway Patrol says 60-year old Stephen Strokis was traveling westbound on Fort Mill Highway (SC-160) when his 2018 Ford Explorer ran off the right side of the roadway striking the teenager pedestrian. Troopers confirmed the teen was walking westbound on the shoulder of the highway before being hit. The vicitm was taken by Lancaster County EMS to Atrium Pineville Hospital where he died from his Injuries.
South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating an accident that claimed that life of a teenager Wednesday afternoon. The accident happened around 3:45 p.m., on SC-160 near Bailes Ridge Avenue in Fort Mill, South Carolina.
Construction crews in the area were working on a road widening project near where the fatal accident occured. State Troopers say a 16 year old boy was hit by a white Ford Explorer near the Enclave at Bailes Ridge Apartments.
SC Highway Patrol confirmed a 60 year old Fort Mill man was driving a Ford Explorer when it went off the road striking the teenager. Officials say the 16 Year old was walking on the shoulder of SC-160 when the crash happened.
Due to the victims serious injuries an Atrium Health MedCenterAir helicopter was launched. Firefighters from Pleasant Valley Fire Department & Indian Land Fire Department established a landing zone near Lowes Home Improvement.
Due to the severe nature of the victims injuries, it was decided to transport the victim by ambulance rather then airlift him out. A Lancaster County EMS Ambulance and MedCenterAir Pramedic transported the teen to an area hospital.
Highway Patrol and Lancaster County Sheriff Office closed SC-160 while they investigated the accident. The driver reportedly stayed on scene.
The victims name is not being released at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
