Unlicensed Driver Arrested After Leaving Head-On Crash Scene

A driver is facing multiple charges in connection with a head-on crash in South Charlotte leaving multiple people hurt.

An Unlicensed Driver was arrested after leaving the scene of a head-on crash in Matthews, North Carolina. Police say the unidentified driver was facing multiple charges after the crash on Sunday, April 5, 2020 at 8:57 p.m. According to a spokesperson with the Matthews Police Department, two vehicles collided head-on with one another at 2600 Pleasant Plains Road.

Matthews Police Department Public Information Officer Tim Aycock said the driver of one vehicle attempted to pass another vehicle in the oncoming traffic lane on Pleasant Plains Road when it collided with the second vehicle. Paramedics removed multiple victims to awaiting ambulances with life-threatening injuries. Four people in total were injured as a result of the crash. Mecklenburg EMS officials confirmed three of the victims suffered serious inquiries while one was in the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police arrested the unlicensed driver at the scene. They was charged with Driving Without A License, Reckless Driving, Overtaking Vehicle in Same Direction and Hit-and-Run Causing Injury.
