1 Person Rescued, Parking Garage Flooded in Pacific Palisades Water Main Break

One person rescued when water main broke Sunday threatening multiple apartment complexes, flooded garage and streets.

Pacific Palisades: Around 7:43 p.m., Sunday, Mar. 28, 2021, Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a large flow of water near Sunset and Muskingum Avenue affecting multiple apartment complexes from a water main break. Firefighters were working to mitigate the flooding and reduce the chance for injury/life hazard, according to LAFD. Assisting agencies included DWP, DOT, LAPD, and LA County Lifeguards cars were seen in water 3-feet high.

LAFD updated at 11:00 p.m., that only one of the apartment buildings reported damage at this point. During the early stages of the incident, there were reports of someone in distress in the water. LAFD rescued one person from the water who was uninjured. LA County Lifeguards assisted with searching the deep water in a below-grade parking level to make sure no one was stranded in a submerged vehicle, according to LAFD. Crews remained at the scene for several hours to help pump water from out of the parking garage and dewater affected apartment units.
