60 Evacuated During 2nd Alarm Senior Living Apartment Fire in Modesto

Modesto: Modesto Fire Department and Police responded to an apartment fire at Parkview Christian Estates Senior Independent Living on Napier Drive at 8:00 a.m. Sunday morning, Feb.14. According to Modesto Fire Department, when crews arrived they located heavy smoke and flames coming from a second story apartment unit. A second alarm was requested which brought additional resources to the scene. Crews worked with staff and police to evacuate senior residents while they located and attacked the fire. 60 people were evacuated with three requiring assistance by firefighters from the smoke filled apartments. Three occupants and one firefighter were transported to area hospitals for smoke inhalation. Fire crews contained the fire to the apartment of origin that had spread into the attic space above that apartment. Some residents reportedly took shelter at a nearby church. The American Red Cross was at the location assisting those in need of temporary housing. According to MFD, the Stanislaus Fire Investigations Unit is working to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
