Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a trapped vehicle call at 3:36 a.m. Friday, Jan. 29, 2021, at 1300 S. Elwood Street. The vehicle, a big rig, rolled and was hanging halfway off the I -10 freeway fully involved in fire with the possibility of exposing a nearby commercial building.
According to an update from LAFD at 4:41 a.m., firefighters achieved knockdown and created a larger fall zone as there was some slipping visible by the tractor portion of the rig. The commercial building that was exposed to the fire was defended from damage. The sole driver of the truck was safely out before LAFD arrived and did not have any injuries. LAFD reported that two additional patients were evaluated (unknown injuries or where they were located). One patient was transported in unknown condition.
The freeway was closed during an extended period of time to allow additional (non LAFD) resources access to pull the truck back onto the road and safely remove it.
