Man in Stolen U-Haul Leads Police on a Slow Speed Pursuit

Pursuit suspect was taken into custody after hours long slow speed pursuit in Los Angeles on Friday.

Los Angeles: A man in a stolen U-Haul out of Burbank lead the Los Angeles Police Department on a slow speed pursuit through the Park La Brea area of Los Angeles. Officers were able to deploy multiple spike strips on all four wheels of the suspect vehicle. According to LAPD, the suspect has two felony warrants and was not stopping for officers. The pursuit started at 12:46 a.m. Friday, Mar. 26, 2021, at the intersection of South Lucerne Boulevard and West 8th Street when officers attempted to stop the vehicle. The suspect, a male, could be seen using his cell phone and lighting cigarettes during the pursuit. The suspect was possibly armed, and officers were keeping their distance. At one point, officers used the airship overhead in "tracking mode," in hopes the suspect would pull over.

The suspect was taken into custody at approximately 6:15 a.m. by LAPD Olympic Division officers. LAPD Olympic Division Sergeant Yoro granted an on camera interview with the news media at the end of the pursuit.
