Crash Involving Tanker Truck Shuts Down Sunrise Highway

A car collided with a tanker truck on Sunrise Highway in Bellmore, New York, prompting a road closure.

A driver was injured when they collided with a tanker truck on Monday night in Bellmore, New York. The accident happened at around 10:50pm, prompting a large emergency service response that shut down Sunrise Highway in the eastbound lanes of traffic.

The driver of the Cadillac was trapped inside of the vehicle when the Bellmore Fire Department arrived on the scene, resulting in firefighters having to use the "jaws of life" to cut the driver free from the car. The Cadillac driver was transported to the hospital in an unknown condition to be treated for injuries as a result of the crash.

A major concern for first responders was the amount of fuel that was leaking from the vehicle. Luckily, the truck did not spill any after the collision. The tanker truck driver was uninjured from the accident.

Police are still investigating this crash and waiting for towing services to remove the vehicle from the roadway.
