A crash involving a tanker truck in Bellmore, New York has left one driver injured earlier on Monday night.

Earlier Monday night, a crash involving a tanker truck shut down all eastbound lanes of traffic on Sunrise Highway near Newbridge Road.

Nassau County Police responded to a car accident involving a tanker truck in the intersection of Newbridge Road and Sunrise Highway around 10:50pm. The driver of the sedan was left trapped inside of the vehicle, prompting firefighters to use the "jaws of life" to free the trapped occupant of the car. The driver was extricated from the vehicle and transported to a nearby hospital in an unknown condition to be treated for injuries as a result of the crash.

A major concern for first responders on the scene was the amount of fuel that was leaking on the roadway from the sedan. Luckily, the tanker truck did not spill any fuel as a result of the accident. The truck driver was uninjured in the collision.

Police are still investigating the accident, and Sunrise Highway remains closed in the eastbound lanes around Newbridge Road. Towing services were called to recover the vehicle that is obstructing traffic.
