A wedding party bus was involved in an accident after a driver ran a stop sign sending six to the hospital.

On Sunday, May 19, 2019, just after 2:00 p.m., a wedding party bus was involved in a serious accident after a driver ran a stop sign at the intersection of Union Boulevard and Harwood Avenue in East Islip, New York. Six people, including five children and the driver of the Alfa Romeo, were transported to local area hospitals to be treated for injuries as a result of the accident. There were 11 total passengers on the wedding trolley in addition to the driver.

According to multiple witnesses and Suffolk County Police Department officials, the Alfa Romeo driver failed to fully stop at the stop sign resulting in the bus striking the driver side of the vehicle. The vehicle was then pushed into a nearby power utility pole snapping it completely in half and leaving power lines unsecured.

The driver of the party bus commented, "The car hit the pole so hard that it started shaking the other pole," as he pointed down the road to the next utility pole on the street.

Residents say the neighborhood is typically quiet, but the intersection where the accident took place is a major area for people running stop signs.
