Driver Extricated from Crash After Car Slams into Utility Pole

Firefighters used Jaws of Life to cut one person from car after 2 vehicle crash on Veterans Memorial Highway.

On Monday, May 13, 2019 at approximately 7:10p.m., Suffolk County Police responded to a two-vehicle crash in Commack, New York at 56 Veterans Memorial Highway. Police confirm a man driving a 2017 Lexus westbound on Veterans Memorial Highway attempted to make a left into the Macy’s shopping center when he collided with a 2010 Mercedes traveling eastbound on the highway. Firefighters had to use hydraulic rescue tools including the Jaws of Life to free the driver of the 2017 Lexus who was pinned in the vehicle. One driver was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the second vehicle was transported to Huntington Hospital and also treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Police confirm neither vehicle had passengers in it. No criminality is suspected.
