Massive two-alarm structure fire devastates a barn style garage in Middletown, NY.

On Thursday, May 19, 2019 at 12:20 p.m., a massive two-alarm structure fire occurred in a residential garage at 414 Last Road, Middletown, NY. It is unclear now as to what caused the fire. First responders from several different agencies including Silver Lake, Mechanicstown, Circleville, and Washington Heights were on-scene battling the blaze.

Chief Walter Szulwach, of Circleville Fire Department, was one of the first on-scene operators at the location. He immediately upgraded the fire to a two-alarm structure fire. "The building is a total loss - the fire investigations unit will be handling the investigation from here" said Szulwach. Two fire-fighters suffered minor injuries as a result of the fire according to Szulwach.

The main residence, to the right of the garage on the property, did not have any visible damage. The garage structure appeared to be in the process of being emptied with a large dumpster in front of it and a large pile of items. The dumpster appeared to also have damage on the sides of it as well.

We will update this story as it progresses.
