Dozens of firefighters battle towering flames causing damage to two homes in Massapequa late Wednesday night.

On Wednesday June 19, 2019 at 11:30 p.m., North Massapequa Fire Department was alerted to a reported house fire at 12 Garden Avenue in Massapequa. When firefighters arrived at the home they found a two-story home fully engulfed in flames. Neighbors say flames lit up the night sky which reached approximately 20 or more feet into the air. Mutual aid was requested from eight surrounding fire departments to assist in the firefight.

Sources say the flames were so intense it caught high tension wires on fire which caused the fire to spread to a neighboring home. North Massapequa Fire Department upgraded the fire to a 2nd alarm fire response due to the heavy fire conditions and fire spread. No injuries were reported. Unfortunately a cat in home did reportedly perish. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshal Office.
